The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) launched the Year of Open Science in January 2023, and many federal agencies have launched initiatives related to Open Science. In particular, there have been updates to federal agencies' Public Access Plans, in response to OSTP’s public access memorandum, Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research, which requires federally funded research to be made publicly available.
During Open Access Week, researchers celebrate Open Access -- practices and policies that make research materials available online for no cost and without other access barriers, so that they can be freely shared, revised, and remixed. The Open Access Week theme for 2023 is Community over Commercialization. See more on this theme here.
